Bonded Body Alum-Mag 5 String Violin

The following is another brief photo description of the making of a composite aluminium bodied 4/4 size violin with a magnesium back, this one is also bonded together with Araldite Super Strength two part epoxy resin.
The overall measurements are from 'Juliet Barker', the contour templates are for a Sacconi Strad 1716 & the (adjusted) neck/scroll dimensions are from 'Strobel'.

The arching are:   top plate 13.8mm, back plate 11.2mm.
(Internal concavity: top plate 13.0mm, back plate 10.2mm.)            
with 0.8mm aluminium used for the top plate and bass bar, the ribs are 0.5mm aluminium and the rib locating/edge reinforcement strips are 0.8mm aluminium.
The bottom plate is 1mm magnesium.
The neck is Bosnian Maple, blocks and sound post are Spruce, with ebony finger board, nut, end pin and pegs.
The aluminium saddle is 3 mm and the 5 string tail piece is made from 1mm aluminium.
The finished weight with attached extended height Dresden chinrest is 630 grams, compared to 582grams for the Aluminium bonded bodied standard 4/4 Violin. The central torsional tube weighs 32grams so there is a further possible weight saving there.
(the weight of a normal 4/4 sized wooden violin is approx. 450grams.

A - D'Addaro Helicore H312 4/4 Stranded Steel Core Aluminium, Medium Tension
D - D'Addaro Helicore H313 4/4 Stranded Steel Core Titanium, Medium Tension
G - D'Addaro Helicore H314 4/4 Stranded Steel Core Silver, Medium Tension
C - Palatino Nylon Core String
